Shiny New Things: December 2011- January 2012 Hauls

Not a gigantic personal haul done over Xmas, moreso, pressies for my team.

Although, MOH’s Xmas pressie to me was off the hook! Lemme show you…

Yep, an iPad2 plus a pink cover!! Hooked me up with Beyonce’s new scent, Pulse, a pink vinyl Domo, some cupcake lipglosses and a cupcake notepad. Super cute! My man knows me so well :D

I loves it! I have been on this thing nonstop since December 25. MOH already has one so now we’re twinsies :P

My company sent out this gigantic gourmet chocolate hamper which included everything Lindt, Baci, Guylian, plus a copy of the Michael Buble Christmas CD and David Campbell’s Let’s Go (back to the 80s) CD. This below is one set of choccies that were in the hamper.

(I forgot where the big pic is, atm.)

One of my team gifted me with some beautiful perfume bottles, cute socks and a large pink Domo :D

Because I worked all through Xmas and Boxing Day, I missed getting out to the sales. I had a couple days off over New Year so I made sure to get out to a shop or two to take advantage of the sales.

SATC 1 & 2 Blu Ray Set and perfume haul

  • SATC set- onsale for $14.99!!! Holy focaccia!
  • Cosmic Radiance EDP by Britney Spears (didn’t even know this existed) plus was given 3 gifts- the gold clutch, the gold wristlet and a nail polish bag by Sally Hansen
  • Viva La Juicy by Juicy Couture- been wanting for ages and found this size at a fantastic price!

Colette/Target/Priceline/Kmart Haul

Needed a new handbag, spent a half hour walking up and down the store, trying to find the perfect one that would fit all my junk and not break.

  • Beige tote with gold hardware
  • Studs, Hoops, Rings in silver and/or black
  • Nail polish in lavendar and pink glitter (wearing at the moment, just gorgeous!)
  • Lee Stafford travel pack- has my fave hair product in it- a dehumidifier! Love to bits!!
  • Hello Kitty book cover- I know it’s childish but I want to cover my work diary in it :D
  • Eyeliner & Mineral Foundation top ups

The Hills & Equip Haul

  • Hills boxset- $56 on sale, for all 6 seasons. Now, I can possibly get rid of my American copies of Seasons 1 and 2. Miss this show, seriously.
  • Bracelet sets, rings and studs
  • (not pictured) Restocked underwear, basic tees and tanks for the new year as well. Some fantastic bargains, esp. at some of the places in my local shopping centre. The centre is being opened up on one side for expansion so the stores that are being demolished/walls broken down first, have started vacating and therefore, practically throwing out the stock.

Anyway, that’s it for another month or so, haul wise. Got bills to pay soon so I don’t expect to be hauling a great deal for a while :(

Shiny New Things: August 2011

Some mini hauls this past month. Nothing too egregious…

A Priceline basics haul… not much to report except for the continuation of hair lightening and adding some new colours to my eyeliner repertoire at a better cost.

A Target/Priceline haul… Picked up the soap dispenser from Target, to go with the pink bathroom. It may, one day, look like the inside of a …… you know what, lol (gross!) Really depending on mineral makeup a lot more now that hair colour is up a few shades and I don’t want to buy any more liquid foundation to suit. Mineral makeup seems to allow my face to breathe better and I think it works far better with my current primer by FOA.

A Kmart/Priceline/Price Attack haul

I don’t love BYS polishes but I was sure willing to try a matte top coat for $4, just to test it out. And I’ve wanted a mid pink crackle polish for a while so Kmart did me right. Priceline, on the other hand, ran out of my most beloved product of my year, the Lee Stafford Poker Straight Dehumidifier and only had the tiny version again. I freaked and thought I’d better get it anyway ‘cos I was about torun out at home. But while there, I decided to drop some cash on an old favourite- TreSemme’s heat tamer and a newbie to my haircare routine- Frizz Ease’s 3 Day Straight. BTW, I straighten my hair with a straightening iron so a product that says 3 Days Straight shouldn’t only work with blow-friggin’-drying! Epic fail. That crap shall stay in the drawer ’til forever.

But guess where I did manage to get good service, the item I wanted and a decent price? Price Attack! They only had the large cans of Poker Straight, cheaper too so I bought two right away. Plus I didn’t get any backhanded compliments from the saleslady, like I sometimes do with the little whiney teens who try to run Priceline. There is so much to be said for great customer service. And Price Attack get a gold star from me!

A steal from Target- it’s a straightening iron mat and travel case Price? $7, that’s lunch money, b*tches!

Lady Times: July Hauls

I’ve been worried daily about my hair colour and the state of my hair after multiple dyeings, thrice weekly straightening and lack of serum input. I decided that this weekend would be it, I would put my worries to rest and buy something out of the norm for me.

Early July Haul

A shampoo and conditioner I have never used before as well as the leave in serum in the Schwarzkopf brand. When it comes to washing my hair, I am extremely dumb and cheap. Even MOH uses a better brand than I do and he has way less hair than I do.

The results have been steady. I only had to straighten my hair once this week and it stayed for 3 days! I tonged curls into my hair today and the ends didn’t look craptastic! I also got MOH to trim my hair by a few inches the other night so I could start anew with the new products. The shampoo and conditioner smell great and the leave in conditioner has a shimmer to it. So far, so good!

Oh, has anyone else noticed that nearly every store that sells cosmetics now sell their own brand of makeup wipes? Yes, even Woollies and Coles! It’s good to have the alternate out there ‘cos there is no Priceline at my work and the one at my local shopping centre is always out of the best products.

I used to use strictly Johnson & Johnson’s facial wipes- the pink package, at about $6 or $7 a pop but around $15 for a 3 pack but decided to try out Priceline’s many versions (after it not being available on 3 visits in a row) – Vitamin E (pink), Cucumber (green), anti aging and a few others, which do the same job but a couple dollars cheaper. Unfortunately, I’m not the only one who has this idea to save money and try something new out ‘cos the Priceline brand is almost always out of stock now and the price is increasing due to demand.

I tried the Australis wipes and they smelled so disgusting I threw 2 and 3 quarters packs out. There was something vomitous about the smell, I couldn’t apply that to my face.. Face of Australia’s wipes are great- good texture, smell pleasant and do the job but a little pricey.

The Coles & Woollies ones are about $1- $1.50 a pack and did the job, with a just-tolerable scent. The price is so much better than the cosmetic house branded type, but with a lot less moisturiser/cleanser embedded in each wipe.

And alas, I bring you the two types Kmart has to offer- fragrance free and green tea. They’re only 2 bucks each, do the job and smell like they say they will. Fragrance Free stays true to its word- no scent! Green tea smells like a very light green tea. The only problem here is there’s no texture to hold onto your face as you wipe down so you have to start from the top again and move down in shorter wipes. I’m holding out hope that their manufactures will bring a light textured side to the wipes to make it the perfect facial wipe!

Anyway, review over… here’s some more junk I added to my collections…

Kind of a belated b’day gift to myself.

Have had Myer giftcards and b’day voucher burning holes in my pocket so I finally got the new Beyonce perfume, Heat Rush. It happens to be Beyonce’s official second scent (as her Tommy Hilfigers don’t count) and seems more of a day time version of the original Heat (which I blogged a while back.) I got the free Heat EP (with Bey’s version of Fever on it) and a limited edition Heat Rush zip clutch. MOH was gonna punch someone the way all the reps kept swarming us so we made a beeline for the door as soon as the receipt was popped in the bag. (How cool was that? Two bee puns in one sentence without even trying!) Will definitely do a Scentsation post in the near future :)

The self tan and exfoliating scrub is to prepare myself for lightening my hair even more in the coming weeks, as is the cream bleach. Don’t want any stray black hairs when I’m rocking light caramel locks. And the little pink aerosol (I know, slaps on the wrist for me) is Lee Stafford’s Poker Straight De-Humidifier. I thought I’d see what it was like, hence the smaller can, and OMG, it is a bloomin’ hair style saver! I rocked my hair straight all last week without barely a wave made from the heat. Plus the spray smells lovely and my hair finally looks and feels healthy with a great shine to boot. Poker Straight is officially my Product of the Year. For me, a woman with naturally afro-ish hair (derived from my parents island heritages- Tongan and Jamaican), this product is a godsend. While I love my curls, they are not great to work with everyday (and they’re very heavy and can get hot) so I straighten my hair un-chemically and condition my hair until it can’t take anymore.

Anyhoo, that’s pretty much all I hauled for July although I did manage to pick up some mineral foundation by Covergirl for my new colour scheme (based on my lighter hair). I copped 2 bottles at Coles on sale for $4 each, compared to the original $22 price tag. That same week, I picked up Covergirl’s bronzer and pink blush in the same style for decent prices as well so I have a matching set :) . I somehow lost the photo of that haul. Oh well, til next time!
